A cosmopolitan is a cocktail made with vodka, Cointreau or Triple Sec, cranberry juice, and fresh-squeezed lime juice or sweetened lime juice. Informally, it is referred to as a Cosmo. The cosmopolitan gained popularity fairly quickly, traveling from Provincetown, through New York, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, and on to San Francisco or possibly from Miami to San Francisco, and on to New York. One indisputable icon of SATC is the Cosmopolitan cocktail seen countless times throughout the series in the hands of the ladies during their escapades in NYC. A Cosmopolitan is a cocktail made with cranberry juice, vodka, Cointreau and fresh-squeezed lime juice or sweetened lime cordial. In SATC this is often affectionately referred to as a ‘Cosmo’, a strong symbol of the girl’s heady, sophisticated, and stylish lifestyles!

The classic Cosmopolitan, became one of the favorite cocktails ever due mostly to it’s role in the HBO show, Sex and the City. Most bartenders know how to make this light, fruity Martini, making it a great choice for a casual night out. There are hundreds of variations on the Cosmo, some use more or less cranberry juice, some triple sec instead of Cointreau, and some include a citrus vodka. It’s all a matter of personal preference, this is the way I like it.

Cosmopolitan Cocktail Drink

The Cosmopolitan Cocktail, a different kind of sensory sensation, true to the legendary Cosmo; an inviting and refreshing combination of Vodka, Cranberry Juice, a hint of Lime Juice and a touch of Cointreau. Maybe it will evoke memories of a sunset on the pier in sandals, or maybe an elegant black tie affair.

1 oz vodka
.5 oz triple sec
.5 oz fresh lime juice
.5 oz cranberry juice
Combine with ice in shaker
shake, pour, garnish with lime wedge

Demeter creates scents that are drawn from memories to transport a person back to a special place or time.
Everyone has a personal library of meaningful smells. The memories they trigger are somehow more intense than those we dredge up by conscious effort. It’s as if smell provides a shortcut to our deepest memories and brings them back complete with the emotions and sensations we felt at the time.

How to mix a perfect cosmopolitan cocktail

1. Put two and a half parts of citrus vodka, measuring with a jigger. (One part equals one ounce.)
2. Add 3/4 part of orange liqueur and 3/4 part cranberry juice.
3. Using a citrus squeezer, add 1/2 part of fresh lime juice.
4. Add some ice to our shaker to chill the tin down. Using the strainer, strain the excess water. Tamp down on the glass as you invert it onto the shaker. Make sure you’ve got a good seal, then shake it like you mean it!
5. Once the cocktail is well-chilled, flip the glass back up, tap the side to loosen, and remove the shaker.
6. Pour into a well-chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with one wheel of fresh lime floating in the glass.

Any drink recipe can be modified by simply leaving the alcohol out, however these recipes are some of the more common mocktails. These non-alcoholic drinks are great for serving the entire family and a nice alternative for party guests who prefer not to drink alcohol.Mocktails or Virgin Cocktails are a great alternative for your “non-drinking” guests. If you’re serving up cocktails at a party, don’t leave some of your guests out of the fun; serve them one of these fancy mixed drinks.

Non Alcoholic Drinks also known as Mocktails or Virgin Drinks are non-intoxicating beverages. The word ‘Mocktail’ is a derivative of two words - ‘mock’ meaning a copy or imitation of something and the word ‘cocktail’ meaning a mixed drink. A mocktail, or a Virgin cocktail, is a beverage which does not contain any intoxicating alcohol. A non alcoholic drink, or mocktail, is made of one or more kinds of beverages such as fruit juices or mixers. It is usually shaken or stirred before serving.

Mocktails or Virgin Cocktails are a great alternative for your “non-drinking” guests. If you’re serving up cocktails at a party, don’t leave some of your guests out of the fun; serve them one of these fancy mixed drinks.

Shirley Temple
(Virgin Sling)
3 oz Lemon Juice
2 oz Orange Juice
Dash of Grenadine
Ginger Ale
Shake the Lemon Juice and Orange Juice with ice in a cocktail shaker, pour into a Sling Glass, Add a Dash of Grenadine and top up the glass with Ginger Ale. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.

The drink is the perfect match for a rich dish,” says Jesse LaFortune, maître d’ of the distinguished restaurant Gary Danko, in San Francisco. “Intense and floral, with strong tannins that cut through the richness.” Familiar words, perhaps, but LaFortune isn’t talking about Cabernet or Petit Verdot—he’s talking about African rooibos, a type of herbal tea.
Non-alcoholic Cocktails

And he is not alone. Some of the country’s best restaurants are offering nonalcoholic drinks go well beyond sparkling water. At Clio, in Boston, sommelier Erin O’Shea pairs house-made spruce soda with chef Ken Oringer’s radish, tamarind, and hearts of palm salad.

Classic Mocktail Recipes

Margarita Mocktail Recipe - Ah, the margarita - queen of the bar scene. While many mocktail margaritas leave something to be desired, this one is a frozen treat your taste buds will remember.

Citrus Collins Mocktail Recipe - The Citrus Collins is a fresh, citrusy drink perfect for sipping on the porch during the warmer months.

Strawberry Lemon Daiquiri Mocktail Recipe - Strawberries and ice make this virgin daiquiri a delicious addition to any get together. Kick it up with a hint of lemonade and you’ll really have something to remember.

“ Cocktail” is a type of mixed drink which is consumed in almost all countries. It is a type of liquor with flavouring agents. It contains fruit juice, sauces, honey, milk, cream or spices, etc. Cocktails had become popular recently. The disadvantage of buying cocktail is that many bar owners mix both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages with the drink. This is very hazardous to consume.

The olden day’s cocktails were made in combination with gin, whiskey or rum and with a small amount of vodka. Many cocktails were made traditionally by mixing it with gin which is called as gimlet or martini. This type of mixed drinks was introduced after 1980’s. The word cocktail was determined by Dr. David Wonderich in October 2005.

Wedding Receptions

A cocktail wedding reception is one such type that can be cost effective when compared to traditional sit-down dinner receptions. Since there are no restrictive seating arrangements, this encourages the guests to mingle freely. The presence of the cocktail is bound to bring down the inhibitions which have to be taken into account. The need for tables, chairs and tableware are alleviated. If need be, they can be relegated to a corner of the reception venue to cater to the more traditional elderly family members. So the reception can be held at a smaller venue. The arrangement of several smaller food stations and bars prevent the formation of long queues and preventable skirmishes.

Cocktail receptions also create a much more social atmosphere versus a traditional wedding reception. With few tables and chairs, the cocktail reception encourages mingling and movement around the location. This party type of format may not be conducive for traditional wedding reception activities, unless the location has enough room to “clear” the center for first dances and bouquet tossing.

Cocktail wedding receptions are all the rage, they are classy and upscale, yet cost considerably less than traditional wedding receptions while giving guests the traditional after-the-ceremony “party” feel. Cocktail receptions create a relaxed and social atmosphere, so you will want to plan your cocktail party with socializing in mind. Here are some great tips to have a fabulous cocktail wedding reception.

Party Cocktail Dresses

Although the design is suppose to be feminine and flattering it still requires a certain amount of youthful skin and nicely shaped shoulders to carry the look off perfectly. The new style halters cover up a lot more without losing the sexy edge that we all want in our cocktail dresses.

The fashion savvy ladies amongst us are all craving after these new styles in party cocktail wear because of the ultra feminine design cuts and lavish embellishments. This is mainly because it is far more easier to obtain these latest fashions on the internet.

Manhattan Cocktail

The Manhattan cocktail is tasty and it is also an important part of cocktail history. Here is it’s interesting origin and some of the best recipes for making a Manhattan cocktail.

In the 1870’s, Winston Churchill’s mother was hosting a party for then presidential candidate Samuel J. Tilden. This cocktail was created especially for the banquet and it was a big hit. Mr. Tilden lost the election wound up losing the election but his party drink became famous. People started asking for the drink by the name of the club where the party was held, The Manhattan Cocktail. Personally, I would have called it the Mother Churchill’s Cocktail but I wasn’t born for another 100 years, so I didn’t have a say in the matter.

When you are shopping for a new cocktail shaker the choices can be overwhelming as there are many styles and designs available. The first decision is to choose between a traditional cocktail shaker and a Boston shaker. The main difference between these two styles is that the cocktail shaker has a built in strainer and the Boston shaker requires a hawthorne strainer.

A shaken cocktail is made by putting the desired ingredients (typically fruit juices, syrups, liqueurs and ice cubes) in the cocktail shaker. Then it is shaken heavily for a while, ranging from 5 seconds to 10 seconds, depending on the taste desired. Drinks that are meant to be clear should be stirred and not shaken, as this will result in the drink becoming cloudy.

Cocktail Shaker - Traditional Glass and Stainless Steel Design

Mix cocktails like a professional bartender with this cocktail shaker. Make up your own variations or use the 3 basic recipes on the glass for Martini, Manhattan and Margaritas. Features: Glass tumbler with rubber seal, Stainless Steel shaker, Capacity: 500ml, Recipes for Margarita, Manhattan & Martini.

Cobbler Shaker: This is the classic cocktail shaker that is normally made of three pieces: a metal tumbler, a snug fitting lid, and a small cap that fits over the lid and covers the strainer that is built into the lid. This is the type of shakers that most folks will have at home because it is so simple and straightforward to use. You will also see this use at many bars, but since I find that it takes slightly longer to strain the drink into the glass, I don’t recommend this for professional use in a busy bar.

Boston Cocktail Shaker: “Boston ” way, you measure your ingredients and ice into the glass tumbler portion. Next you’ll need to carefully position the inverted metal tumbler over the top; giving it a swift and firm slap with your hand to seal the two sections together. If forming the seal was a downside of the Boston Cocktail Shaker, breaking the seal is the deep downside since the wrong move can crack the glass. To separate the two pieces of a Boston Cocktail Shaker, you’ll have to hold the metal tumbler firmly, and slap it just below the rim, right about the point where the glass comes in contact with it with the heel of your hand.

The French Shaker is the least popular shaker of the Cobbler and the Boston. It is primarily made of metal. I prefer not to use it, as it doesn’t possess a strainer like the Cobbler. It is great for mixing drinks that are include ice cream, rather than ice. I think it’s on the same wavelength as the Boston, as it essentially provides two pieces, but not as effective. The Boston Shaker is very much like the French Shaker, but it consists of a combination of metal and glass (or some possess plastic).

The novelty cocktail set has everything you will need to start mixing in confidence. Contained within the aluminium chemistry rack are various bottles, flasks and jugs that will help increase your evil scientist status!

Gadde was one of two scientists who presented findings yesterday of pharmaceutical company-sponsored trials that tested cocktails of drugs that caused incidental weight loss in patients taking them for other reasons.

A three-drug cocktail used by many HIV-infected people proved clearly superior to other combinations at treating new patients in the biggest head-to-head comparison of AIDS medications.

The best known use of drug cocktails has been in the fight against HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Drug cocktails also have been used to combat several types of cancer. Often, drugs that might not be effective in combating diseases individually do much better in combination.Drug combinations can also be used effectively to inhibit infectious diseases because resistance to a single drug is very common, according to Ren Sun, UCLA professor of molecular and medical pharmacology and a member of the research team.

Many psychiatrists and parents believe that such drug combinations, often referred to as drug cocktails, help. But there is virtually no scientific evidence to justify this multiplication of pills, researchers say. A few studies have shown that a combination of two drugs can be helpful in adult patients, but the evidence in children is scant. And there is no evidence at all - “zero,” “zip,” “nil,” experts said - that combining three or more drugs is appropriate or even effective in children or adults.

Often, drugs that might not be effective in combating diseases individually do much better in combination.

If one drug isn’t enough to control these tumors, then maybe creating a cocktail of several drugs, and adding them to chemotherapy, will be. In some ways, it’s a fallback strategy, says Dr. Leonard Saltz, a colon cancer specialist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. “Nobody set out to develop [these drugs] as an additive to chemotherapy,” he says. “They were supposed to replace chemo, and make us look back and say, ?Can you believe that we had a barbaric age when we were treating patients with something that made them lose their hair and vomit their guts out?’ But they didn’t work, and if you can’t beat them, join them.”

The drug cocktails are not free of side effects, but it appears that the vast majority of individuals who try them are able to tolerate the drugs. These drugs, now prescribed to patients before they attain a diagnosis of AIDS, have been responsible for reducing the rate of new AIDS cases in the U.S. by about half since they were introduced. That effect might have been larger had more people been diagnosed and treated with the drugs in time.

A cosmopolitan is a cocktail made with vodka, Cointreau or Triple Sec, cranberry juice, and fresh squeezed lime juice or sweetened lime juice. Informally, it is referred to as a Cosmo.

Ingredients (serves 1): 3 scoops ice cubes, 60mls (1/4 cup) vodka, 15mls (3 tsp) cranberry juice, 1/2 lime, juiced, 2 thin strips lime rind, to garnish. Method: Place the ice, vodka, cranberry juice and lime juice in a cocktail shaker and shake well. Pour into cocktail glasses and serve, each garnished with a lime rind strip.

Specialty Cocktail Recipe: Ingredients: 1-1/2 ounces Vodka or Citrus-flavored Vodka, 1/2 ounce Cointreau, 1 ounce Cranberry juice, 1/2 ounce lime juice. Combine in a shaker with crushed ice. Strain into rocks glass.

The Cosmopolitan Cocktail, a different kind of sensory sensation, true to the legendary Cosmo; an inviting and refreshing combination of Vodka, Cranberry Juice, a hint of Lime Juice and a touch of Cointreau. Maybe it will evoke memories of a sunset on the pier in sandals, or maybe an elegant black tie affair.1 oz vodka, 5 oz triple sec, 5 oz fresh lime juice, 5 oz cranberry juice .

Combine with ice in shaker shake, pour, garnish with lime wedge.

Cosmopolitan Cocktail:1 1/4 ounces Absolute Citron vodka (about 2 1/2 tablespoons), 1/4 ounce Rose’s lime juice (about 3/4 tablespoon), 1/4 ounce triple sec or Cointreau (about 3/4 tablespoon), 1/4 cup cranberry juice, 1 cup ice cubes. In a cocktail shaker combine all ingredients. Shake well and strain into a Martini glass.

Cosmopolitan: 1 1/2 oz vodka, 1 oz cranberry juice, 1/4 oz Cointreau- splash of fresh lime juice, Garnish: Lime wedge. Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a lime.

1 shot vodka, 1/2 shot triple sec, 1/2 shot cranberry juice, 1/2 shot lime juice. Add ingredients to cocktail mixer, shake, then strain into a chilled martini glass. Looks very sophisicated and tastes great.
